Obtain a comparability statement issued by ENIC-NARIC France. We translate your diplomas, transcripts, diploma supplements and certificates of completion through sworn translators recognised by France Éducation International.
ENIC-NARIC France is the national information centre on the academic and professional recognition of foreign diplomas. It is part of a European network created jointly by the Council of Europe, UNESCO and the European Commission: ENIC (European Network of Information Centres) and NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centres).
The French ENIC-NARIC centre is hosted by France Éducation International (formerly CIEP, Centre international d'études pédagogiques) in Sèvres. It is the sole competent authority in France for issuing a recognition statement positioning a diploma obtained abroad within the French education system.
Applications are made online via the dedicated platform (phoenix.ciep.fr), with the original diplomas, apostille or legalisation, and certified translations uploaded.
This is the most requested statement. It positions your foreign diploma relative to French national diplomas (CEC/CEQ level). Examples:
ENIC-NARIC administrative fee: €70 per statement (2026). The statement is issued as a PDF with a verification QR code.
For partial studies (not completed with a diploma) or for non-regulated professions. It is useful for recruitment by a company, enrolment in a higher education programme, resuming studies, or accreditation of prior learning.
For diplomas not recognised by the State of origin or that cannot be verified. The statement then specifies the level of study reached based on the evidence provided.
The file comprises several essential documents. All must be translated if drafted in a language other than French:
For details on diploma translation, see our dedicated page diploma translation.
Every university system has its own conventions. Our specialised translators faithfully reproduce honours, grading and duration of studies without prejudging equivalency · which is solely at ENIC-NARIC's discretion.
The American system operates on a GPA (Grade Point Average out of 4.0), with credit hours. A Bachelor's degree (4 years) is generally compared to a French Licence, a Master's degree (1-2 additional years) to a French Master's.
British degrees carry a classification (First Class Honours, Upper Second 2:1, Lower Second 2:2, Third). A 3-year Bachelor (Hons) is comparable to a French Licence.
Since the Bologna reform (1999), European diplomas follow the LMD structure: Licence (180 ECTS), Master's (300 ECTS), Doctorate. The diploma supplement is a standard European document that facilitates recognition.
Many systems (Russian, Chinese, Indian, Maghreb, sub-Saharan) classify by year of study (e.g. "4-year engineering diploma") or by a specific title (Russian Spetsialist, Hispanic Licenciado, Italian Dottore before Bologna).
Some professions do not go through ENIC-NARIC and are instead subject to a specific professional recognition procedure with the competent authority:
For these procedures, all foreign documents must also be translated by a sworn translator.
Our ENIC-NARIC packs are designed for the most common combinations of academic documents. All include translation, certification, stamp, signature, secure PDF and paper delivery by tracked post.

Hosted by France Éducation International in Sèvres, it issues comparability statements positioning the foreign diploma within the French system (licence, master's, doctorate) under the 1997 Lisbon Convention.
Our ENIC-NARIC Essential Pack starts at €89 for the final diploma and one transcript. The Complete Pack at €129 includes the certificate of completion and the study programme.
The ENIC-NARIC review fees themselves are €70 per statement, payable directly to France Éducation International.
No. The statement is an informative document that positions your diploma within the French system, but does not automatically grant access to a regulated profession or a civil service exam. It serves as supporting evidence for administrative procedures (naturalisation, talent passport visa), professional procedures (recruitment, promotion) or academic procedures (enrolment in a master's or doctoral programme).
Yes, for countries outside the EU that are signatories to the Hague Convention. The apostille must be affixed by the competent authority in the issuing country (Ministry of Education, chancellery, authorised notary) before translation.
For non-Hague countries: double legalisation (local ministry + French consulate).
For EU countries: no special formality is required.
Yes. Final transcripts (or the diploma supplement for European ECTS diplomas) are mandatory for any comparability statement application. ENIC-NARIC uses them to assess the credit volume, progression of studies, and consistency of the programme.
On average 3 to 4 months from receipt of a complete file. Incomplete applications may be suspended until the missing documents are received, which mechanically extends the timeframe.
No. Regulated professions (doctor, nurse, lawyer, architect, chartered accountant, etc.) are subject to a specific procedure with the relevant professional authority (professional body, ARS, ministry). ENIC-NARIC can, however, provide an advisory opinion on the academic level.
