Why do prices vary so much on the market?

The price of a certified translation can vary by up to double from one provider to another, for the same document. Five factors explain this gap:

1. No official price scale

Unlike some regulated professions (notaries, bailiffs), sworn translators set their own prices freely. The decree of 22 January 2007, which published an indicative scale, was repealed in 2013. Since then, the market has been entirely free.

2. Cost structure

A physical office in Paris or Lyon carries rent, secretarial and insurance costs that fully online platforms don't have. These costs are naturally passed on to the end client. Transdoc, 100% online, avoids this cost structure.

3. Translator specialisation

A sworn translator specialising in patent law, pharmaceuticals or finance will charge a premium rate justified by their expertise. For routine documents (civil status, diplomas), this specialisation isn't necessary.

4. Urgency and availability

A translator asked to deliver in 4 hours may charge a surcharge of 100% or more. Our Transdoc multipliers (×1.5 express / ×2 urgent) are at the low end of the market average.

5. Hidden extra fees

Some firms charge separately for extra copies, binding, the stamp, postage, follow-up calls, etc. Watch out for "from" prices displayed as a headline rate. At Transdoc, the tax-inclusive price shown is the final price.

Yes. For orders over €200, we offer interest-free payment in 3 or 4 instalments via Alma. You can also arrange a split SEPA transfer on request with our sales team.

What happens if the administration rejects my translation?

If a French administration rejects one of our translations for a formal reason (certification, binding, stamp issue), we redo it free of charge. No conditions.

Our administrative acceptance rate is above 99.5%. In practice, the rare rejections are due to source documents that are too old (over 3 months) or missing an apostille · situations we identify upfront when quoting.
